Fact: Robert Goddard began experimenting with rockets in 1917. He paid for all of the early experiments out of his own pocket, and his wife filmed all of the earlier flights. When the flights became too high and dangerous for their populated area, the Goddards moved to the wide-open spaces of Roswell, New Mexico.

Robert Goddard continually published the results of his rocket tests, however not too many folks were interested in those early years. He claimed that the only really steady subscriber to his publications was the country of Germany.
