Whale and walrus fossils are found in the southeastern and northern lower peninsula of Michigan in shoreline deposits formed during the last 11,000 years after the retreat of the glaciers of the Pleistocene Ice Age.
The mammals evidently swam up the ancestral Mississippi & St. Lawrence Rivers.
