Within 1 billion light years of Earth, at least 19 superclusters of galaxies have been identified. They are typically about 300 million light years in diameter although the supercluster in Leo may be as large as 600 million light years. Superclusters of galaxies are composed of many clusters of galaxies, each containing anywhere from a dozen or so galaxies to many thousands of galaxies. Galaxies, in turn, typically contain 100 billion or more stars.
