What is the difference between dolphins and porpoises? The mammals are so similar that most people can't tell you the difference. Even a more educated biology student might tell you that they are of the same species. In actuality they belong to separate Families! The difference is: dolphins have cone-shaped teeth and a beak-like snout porpoises have flat or spade-shaped teeth and a rounded snout.
